Dick Advocaat oversaw the great escape for Sunderland this season as he saved them from the brink of anarchy and ensured that Sunderland beat the drop with a game to spare following a 0-0 draw against Arsenal.
Advocaat resigned the position as his contract ended with the season and the Dutchman claimed he wanted to spend time with his family. Sunderland who were unwilling to let him go due to the good work he had done with the squad quickly went into negotiations with Advocaat to continue with him for at least one more season. After rounds of negotiations, Sunderland happily announced the signing of Dick Advocaat as their manager for next season.
Advocaat would be charged with taking Sunderland to at least the middle of the table next season and he has more than proved that he is capable of doing the job.
