Pepe Reina spent a frustrating season at Bayern Munich as he hardly ever featured for Guardiola’s side as the team went on to successfully defend the Bundesliga and he has been released from his contract and he has returned to Napoli on a free transfer.
Reina wanted a move to a bigger club at the end of last season and he took a chance on Bayern hoping he could contest for a starting place with arguably the best shot stopper in the world. His gamble didn’t pay off as Neuer held on to the number one spot all season and when Reina came on in the German’s place, the difference was clear. Reina was even red card after just ten minutes one of the three matches he started for Bayer. Desperate for first team football, Reina asked the Munich giants to let him leave and they obliged him allowing him to return to Napoli where he would have a more reasonable chance of starting consistently.
Napoli have welcomed the Spaniard back with open arms as they announce the signing of the 32 year old on their website after he completed a medical this morning.
