Portugal have been labeled a one man team with Cristiano Ronaldo being the stand out star for his country over the last five years but in a friendly against one of the biggest national football teams in the World; Italy, Portugal showed that they can still produce a good win without the three time Ballon D’Or winner as they beat the Azzuri 1-0 in Switzerland
There wasn’t much of a competitive edge to the match as both teams did not field their strongest squads but both squads still comprised of some quality players. after an uneventful first half, Portugal brought the game to life seven minutes after the restart as Quaresma curled in his signature outside of the right foot cross from the left and Eder ran in behind two Italian defense to smash Portugal in the lead. Italy never really threatened to find an equalizer until the 80th minute but it was too little too late for the 2006 world cup winners as Portugal held on to claim what was more of statement than a victory.
The loss represents Antonio Conte’s first as manager of Italy. The former Juventus manager would not be too hurt by the loss though.
