A petrol tanker reportedly exploded at around midnight, burning down residences and retail business shops in Lagos.

The explosion occurred at the intersection between Idimu-Ejigbo and Idimu-Ikotun bus stops.

According to eye witnesses, the tanker skidded off its lane in a dangerous overtaking speed with a commercial bus competing with it.

It was gathered that 34 houses and 70 shops were completely burnt off as well as a commercial tricycle, also known as “Marwa”.

Some witnesses also told Saharareporters that a roadside “suya” roaster’s fire had started the explosion when contents of the fallen tanker spilled on the road.

No causalities were reported.
