National Assembly: Senator Ekweremadu Wins Deputy Senate President Elections

Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the People Democratic Party has been named the Deputy Senate President of the 8th Assembly.

Ekweremadu contested against the All Progressive Congress’ Mohammed Ali Ndume, grabbing 54 votes against Ndume’s 20.

Ekweremadu was the deputy senate president of the previous 7th assembly, and has been sworn in by the deputy clerk of the Assembly.

It is the first time a Senator from the opposition party will be elected as the house’s deputy speaker.
