Well the pressure was apparently too much for the Swiss football administrator as Sepp Blatter resigned today as the president of FIFA, a position he has held for seventeen years prior to today.
Blatter who won re-election for his fifth term in office as the President of football’s governing body was caught in the eye of s bribery storm which rocked the football administration’s body to its foundations. And barely five days into his fifth term, Blatter organized a hasty press conference which involved about 15 people and announced his decision to step down as president of FIFA. ‘I decided to stand again for election for the good of football, but my mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody. Blatter said in the press conference. ‘The elections are closed but the challenges we are facing have not. FIFA needs profound restructuring. I am very much linked to Fifa and its interests. Those interests are dear to me and this is why I am taking this decision.” He was also quoted saying.
FIFA would now be looking to bring in a new president in the next coming days.
