It is no secret that the Ghanaian FA spent an excess of three million dollars on their players and coaching staff during the 2014 FIFA world cup in Brazil. However information coming to light from recently released documents show that Ghana might have been careless with their spending as the FA reportedly paid a ball boy 100,000 dollars
During the World Cup, Ghanaian players revolted and refused to play or train unless their bonuses were increased. The bonuses were increased but the players insisted on cash payment forcing the FA to ship 3 million dollars into Brazil for the payments. While 2,500,000 was spent on the players, the document pictured below captures how the rest of the money was spent. 100,000 dollars(2,165,000 naira by today’s currency conversion indices) was paid to Ismail Hamidu for his services as a ball boy as well as over 5 thousand dollars to a team drummer.
Despite the outrageous outlay, Ghana failed to make it past the first round of the World Cup and the Ghanaian sports commission is reportedly set to launch an enquiry into the events of the World Cup.
