The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari is alleged to have concluded plans to unveil another programme with similar objectives to the current National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
Delivering this during the swearing-in ceremony of the stream ‘II’, 2015 batch A of the NYSC, Mr President revealed that the programme is aimed at addressing issues related to youth empowerment, insecurity and other vices.
The President, who was well represented by the Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, via the state permanent secretary, ministry of special duties, Aderemi Desalu, on Thursday said the programme would be anchored on the model provided by the NYSC scheme.
Buhari said: “As we have promised Nigerians, my administration will soon unveil a comprehensive national youth empowerment programme anchored on the model provided by the NYSC scheme.
“Our goal is to comprehensively address youth employment, insecurity and other social vices prevalent amongst our youths.
“As a globally recognised scheme, the role of corps members, as change agents, will be properly articulated and harnessed for the benefit of our citizens across the country.”
