Stanislas Wrawrinka has been on the ascendancy for a while now but earlier today, he finally announced himself as a genuine top tennis player when he beat Novak Djokovic to pick up the Rolland Garros trophy at the French Open

Wrawrinka was able to withstand an early barrage from Djokovic to win the match despite losing the first set 4-6 as he took the next three sets 6-4, 6-3. 6-4. Stanislas Wrawrinka came into the match as the underdog against a fired up Djokovic who had beaten Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal en route the final but the Serb was outplayed by Wrawrinka who produced some increadible shots and served up a few aces and showed great energy to come from behind to claim the last set. Djokovic did himself no favours with a lot of unforced errors.

Djokovic who was hoping to take a clean sweep of grand slam titles would have to wait until at least next year to join the likes of Andre Agassi and Rodger Federer
