At least 400 athletes from various institutions in Kwara state have so far registered to participate in the first of its kind University of Ilorin Marathon, which is slated for October 20.
This disclosure was delivered by the Chairman of University of Ilorin Sports Council, Professor Uche Bassey Eke, during a visit to the monarch.
Eke disclosed that over 400 participants had indicated interest in the competition.
According to him, the event was used to celebrate academic stability of the institution, its 40th anniversary and as part of the convocation activities.
The monarch, who was described as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and sportsman, commended the University of Ilorin for its academic excellence and innovation and pledged his support for the competition.
Eke called on his support towards the successful organizsation of the 21 kilometer race.
Meanwhile, the university has continued to get support from individuals, corporate organisations and philanthropists, the latest being the Olofa of Offa in Offa Local Government Area of the state, Oba Mohammed Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye II, who has pledged support for the event.
