Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona face a major interruption in their seasons following the suspension of all football in Spain.
The suspension, which will begin on the 16th of May, is caused by a rift over television rights between the Spanish football federation and the government over revenue distribution.
This weekend’s fixtures, including Barcelona vs Real Sociedad and Real Madrid vs Valencia will not be affected.
It will however affect a potential title decider between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona at the Vicente Calderon on May 17.
A total of 17 regional federations would be affected by the suspension, including more than 600,000 players and 30,000 matches, the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) said.
“At the same time, and yet again, we reiterate the offer of dialogue to the Spanish government,” the federation added in a statement.
