Wole Soyinka Throws Shades At The Igbos, Says They all Suffering From Incurable Money-Mindedness
Nobel Laureate and foremost social critic, Wole Soyinka, is of the opinion that Igbos are predictable and only take action when they only have something financial to gain from it.
Delivering a lecture titled ‘Predicting Nigeria, Electoral Ironies’ at the Harvard University Hutchins Centre for African & African American Research, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, the revered scholar described people from that part of the country as “greedy”.
“Igbos remained unrepentant and resolute towards their strategic objective of secession at worst; or a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction at best,” he said at the lecture, which held on April 29.
“The climax of MASSOB’s war against the Nigerian state was the call for sit-ins and civil disobedience that shut down markets and public services, as Igbos stayed at home in a symbolic gesture to assert Biafran independence. The call was honoured by governors in the two principal Ibo states, though without fanfare.
“The Igbos are probably the only group of Nigerians that you can predict with great accuracy whom they will vote for in an election, because they tend to put their votes where their stomachs take them; suffering as it were, from incurable money-mindedness, as they would stop at nothing in their quest for personal financial gain.”
I Supported President Jonathan Faithfully – Mu’azu
The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ahmadu Adamu Muazu in an attempt to shut down reports that he did not do his best for President Goodluck Jonathan as well as his party during the elections has said that perpetrators of such claims are being “economical with the truth”.
The former governor of Bauchi State said he gave his best and all to the campaign of the President & the party, saying if given another opportunity he’ll support the President “again and again.”
Mr. Muazu who made this known via his official twitter account noted that he’s not to be blamed for not delivering maximum votes to the president as it was the people who voted.
This Nigerian Billionaire Wants To Buy Arsenal At An Irresistible Price
Aliko Dangote, has said he wants to buy Arsenal.
Despite failing in 2010 to acquire a stake in the club, the richest black man has not given up on his dream of getting involved with the north London club.
“I still hope, one day at the right price, that I’ll buy the team,” Dangote told Bloomberg.
“I might buy it, not at a ridiculous price but a price that the owners won’t want to resist,” he continued, before ominously adding, “I know my strategy.
You All Will Regret Voting Buhari – Former Military Governor Tells Nigerians
Erstwhile military governor of Akwa Ibom State, Commodore Idongesit Nkanga has revealed that the incoming administration to be led Gen. Muhammadu Buhari might not have been the best decision.
Speaking with newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, he averred that Nigerians should not expect any miracle from an APC-led government, saying that it would only turn Nigeria into the fabled El Dorado.
He said “Last week I was on television and I had called for reorganization in the PDP starting from the national working committee. I think the future is very bright for PDP. I say so because it is not going to take long before Nigerians start seeing that what they expected would happen in two days is not happening. It is then they will start saying maybe we should have looked again before allowing this other people in and it will also help the PDP to purify itself.
“PDP has some problems. It is a deserved break; they will then purify themselves and present themselves afresh to Nigerians and they will see the new phase that is coming. But let me also say that there is no calamity that has occurred. I am just hoping that someday we will be able to get out of the old block since Nigeria came to being. We have always seen eastern Nigeria because what PDP now is a strong hold seems to be what used to be former eastern Nigeria and Midwest.”
“Forget about defection and all of that, those are not serious party people. As they get to where they are getting to, they will find out that what they are looking for they will not be able to get and they will start running back; so leave them,” Nkanga, who was the director general of the PDP campaign in the state stressed.
He Sold PDP To APC, I Have Proof – Fayose Comes For Mu’azu
Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party lost the last presidential election because its National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, compromised in the conduct of the election.
Mr. Fayose said he has in his possession cogent evidence of Muazu unholy alliance with the opposition before the elections.
Fayose threatened that if Mu’azu goes any further to deny romancing the opposition before the election, he would expose all his underhand deals.
“How do we explain the PDP losing so scandalously in Bauchi State, despite the presence of the National Chairman, Federal Capital Territory Minister and the State governor?
“I am even more particular about the National Chairman because he sold the party to the opposition. I have cogent evidences of his unholy alliance with the opposition before the elections and if they go any further, I will expose all his underhand deals.
“I want to say it again that I have no apology for calling for the resignation of the NWC members, especially the National Chairman. After all, someone resigned his position as the National Chairman for Alhaji Mu’azu to assume office.” The governor said.
