The number one female tennis player in the world, Serena Williams has been beaten for the first time in 2015, as she lost to Petra Kvitova in the Madrid open, ending her 13 match winning run.

Serena Williams last defeat came in October last year when she went down to Simona Halep in India at the WTA tournament. Serena Williams was beaten 6-2 6-3 by a spirited Kvitova in their semifinal clash, as Serena Williams, who has 19 grand slam titles to her name looked exhausted and was in no mood to exert herself throughout the match. Williams later stated that she was not too displeased at the end of her unbeaten run as she now had to focus on the second grand slam of the year, The French Open.

Serena who was the champion in Madrid in 2012 and 2013 looks to add a 20th major grand slam title to her cabinet next month when she squares off at the Roland Garros.
