Real Madrid thrashed Espanyol 4-1 but still missed out on the title as Barcelona picked up a win at the Vincente Calderon. Cristiano Ronaldo was however on top of his game as he bagged three goals, one with his left foot, one with his right foot and one with his head, the perfect hat trick.
The first half was a hap hazard affair as both teams both teams struggled to put a few passes together. But the second half made the match light up as Ronaldo broke the deadlock in the 56th minute running onto Benzema’s pass before firing low into the back of the net. Espanyol were back on level terms in the 73rd minute as Keylor Navas was complacence on the ball was punished by Stuani who fired in to make it 1-1. Marcelo Restored Madrid’s lead in the 79th minute, firing home from inside the box following a lay off by Ronaldo before the Portuguese got his second in the 83rd minute firing the ball into the net after receiving a cut back from Hernandez following a swift counter attack. Ronaldo completed his hat trick in injury time as he rose to nod in Hernandez’s cross at the back post to make it 4-1
Ronaldo’s goalscoring heroics had little effect on the table as Barcelona were still crowned champions but his hat trick takes him up to 45 goals, 4 goals ahead of Messi and in pole position to win the golden boot.
