Real Madrid were forced to dig deep by Valencia and the European Champions did coming back from a 2 goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw but the big story would be the penalty miss by Ronaldo that may have earned his side a win.
Real Madrid began the game on the front foot as Bale hit the bar twice, once from a free kick before Ronaldo hit the bar too. Real Madrid were made to pay for those missed chances in the 19th minute by former Madrid player, Pablo Alcacer who stabbed in Gaya’s cross to give Valencia an unlikely lead. Real Madrid searched for an equalizer but things went from bad to worse in the 25th minute as Fuego nodded in Parejo’s free kick to make it two nil. Ronaldo had a chance to cut the deficit just before the interval from the spot but the Valencia goalkeeper guessed right and saved the former Manchester United man’s spot kick. Real Madrid came out smoking in the second half but left themselves exposed at the back to the counter but Valencia failed to take advantage. And in the 56th minute Pepe rose highest to meet Rodriguez’s corner to make it 2-1. Real Madrid completed the comeback in the 84th minute as Isco’s brilliant drive from 25 yards made it into the top corner. Madrid searched for a winner but it was not forthcoming and Los Merengues settled for a draw.
Real Madrid would want to look past the disappointment and turn their attentions to Juventus who they face on Wednesday currently 2-1 behind on the tie but with a precious away goal
