Despite winning the league, Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho would finish the season knowing that he didn’t win everything as he went the entire 9 months of the Barclays Premier league season without picking up the award for manager of the month.
Mourinho might be forgiven to have thought he would win the award this month after steering Chelsea to the league title but that was not to be the case as Leicester City manager, Nigel Pearson picked up the award instead. Mourinho’s heroics did not go unnoticed but Pearson guided Leicester City to four wins in April, taking them out of the relegation zone, into 16th place, giving his side a very good chance of staying in the top flight for at least another season. Mourinho to his credit joked about strangling the members if the panel but the former Real Madrid manager took it in good stride saying: ‘My objective for the season is to be champion and what comes comes and what doesn’t come, doesn’t come, I prefer not to comment, but I would like to know the people in the panel. Who are they because maybe someday I meet somebody and I want to hug [does strangle gesture] him.’
Mourinho would not dwell much on his inability to win the award for manager of the month as he would turn his attention to his side’s tie against Liverpool at the weekend. Despite already having the league wrapped up, Chelsea would know that there is a lot of pride at stake when they host Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
