The National Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kogi State council has on Wednesday alerted the general public on the existence of false journalists in Idah, Ankpa, Ayangba and other parts of Igalaland.

According to a statement released by the council in Lokoja, bogus pressmen had been going around to extort from unsuspecting members of the public, using the names of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Liberty Television and other major national newspapers.

The statement which was signed by the Secretary of the council, Mr Momoh Jimoh, disclosed that the fake reporters always ply their trade in Igalaland, threatening the lives of genuine journalists.

It, therefore, warned the people of the senatorial district, especially politicians, to desist from dealing with this crop of fake journalists who had been doing a lot of damage to journalism and the image of the NUJ.

“There is no press corp or chapel of NUJ existing in Igalaland,” the statement restated.

The names, however, of those involved and their particulars have been sent to security agencies for proper action. (NAN).
