Former Egyptian President Mubarak, Sons Slapped With Three-Year Sentence

Former Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak,87, and his two sons have been sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Egyptian court following a retrial of a corruption case on , May 9, 2015.

He was sentenced in 2014 for an alleged diversion of public funds which he used to upgrade family properties.

Mubarak had previously appealed the sentence which prompted the retrial.

His sons, Gamal and Alaa, were slapped with a four-year jail terms in the same case.

The trio were charged with embezzling $14m worth of state funds over a decade which was earmarked for the renovation and maintenance of Egypt’s presidential palaces.

Egypt’s highest court is also due to decide on 4 June whether to allow an appeal against a lower court’s ruling that dropped murder charges against Mubarak.
