Some will call it taking advantage, some will call it cheating, most will say Manny Pacquaio was making excuses, but it seems Mayweather might have done some questionable things in their fight.
Turns out that few weeks before the fight, Manny Pacquiao injured his shoulder during training. This injury, which he might already be in trouble for not revealing, allegedly stopped Manny from practicing any more till the weeks leading up to fight, to give the wound some time to heal. The wound healed a bit but Pacman was not 100%.
In his news conference after his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. however, Manny Pacquiao revealed that Mayweather must have been told about the injury as he was targeted it repeatedly.
You saw he was pulling my hand. He was doing that because he knew,” he told Rappler.com. “He was pulling it. He was holding me, then he was targeting this. I’m sure he found out. Somebody leaked it to him. They knew.”
And true to his word, Mayweather actually gave Pacquiao a lot of hugs. Whether he was really pulling his shoulder during the hugs remains unknown, for now.
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe seemed to acknowledge the Mayweather camp was getting leaked information from Team Pacquiao. In an interview with Yahoo’s Kevin Iole before the fight, Ellerbe said: “Freddie Roach thinks he runs a tight camp, but I know everything that’s happening there. I heard it’s been a very rough camp. And now, I think it’s dawning on Manny Pacquiao exactly what he’s up against.”
