11 suspected leaders of cult groups have been taken into custody by the Special Crack Squad deployed to Edo, by the Inspector-General of Police to tackle cultism and violence-related crimes.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja on Thursday, described the arrested suspects as “highly placed persons.’’
The statement further revealed that the arrestee believed to be linked to recent cult-related killing, were caught at different locations in the state on May 12.
If we recall, the IGP, Mr Solomon Arase, on Wednesday, dispatched the squad to Edo, amid concerns over violent crimes and activities of cultists.
The statement read “The Police High Command appreciates the collaborative efforts of the members of the public, particularly in Edo state, on the achievement made so far by the Special Crack Squad’’.
The suspects are said to be undergoing interrogation, as the I-GP vows that no criminal would be spared, no matter how highly placed. (NAN)
