Liverpool became the first side to give a guard of honor to Chelsea as they visited the newly crowned champions at Stamford bridge before proceeding to provide an entertaining encounter in which veterans, John Terry and quite befittingly, Steven Gerrard both found the back of the net.
Chelsea started the brighter of the two teams despite making changes including starting Mikel for the first time since January as well bringing in teenager, Reuben Loftus-Cheek. Following a Fabregas corner in the 5th minute, John Terry rose highest to nod his side into the lead. Liverpool started to grow into the game and in the 44th minute when Ivanovic fould Lallana close to the corner flag, Gerrard arrived at the back post to equalize for Liverpool from Coutinho’s delivery. Liverpool were the better side in the second half but both sides failed to create any clear cut scoring chance.
Liverpool now find themselves six points behind Manchester United in the race for fourth place with just two rounds of matches to go.
