Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno state, recorded its first rainfall for the year on Sunday, after months of intense heat, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The moderate down pour which started at about 5.30pm and lasted for about 30 minutes, brought relief to the city, which had experienced temperature of more than 47 degree Celsius.

Residents couldn’t control their excitement as one of them, Malam Alpha Ibrahim, told NAN that he was happy with the development.

If we recall, a similar phenomenon was recorded in Abuja on Saturday when residents also witnessed a moderate rainfall that brought about moderate cool weather.
