At least 5 people have been killed in an outbreak of xenophobic violence in South Africa.
The violence reportedly began after reported comments by Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini, an influential figure among the Zulu ethnic group, that foreigners should “pack their bags” and leave.
Zwelithini has however begged for an end to the violence.
Malawi’s information minister, Kondwani Nankhumwa, has stated that the country is already looking to move its citizens out of South Africa.
“Most of them fled with literally nothing to safe camps,” the minister said. “The numbers will swell since some Malawians are in hiding.”
