Two members of the Nigerian Police Force were reported dead while escorting election results to the collation centre in Bali local government area, Taraba state.

According to Premium Times report, the police officers, who were deployed to Marrio village in the council, drowned after the boat transporting them capsized.

An eyewitness disclosed that “When it happened, the villagers tried all they could to rescue the policemen but before they could help them they had drowned,”

The police spokesperson, Joseph Kwaji, however, did not reveal the names of the deceased.

The tragic incident has forced the electoral officers in the council to cancel the election as result sheets were lost in the river where the police officers drowned.
