Welcoming Rayo Vallecano to the Camp Nou after league leaders, Real Madrid, lost to Athletic Bilbao was what Barcelona did.
They made no mistakes in capitalizing on the fact that Madrid dropped points. With Messi scoring a hat trick and bringing his tally of La Liga hat tricks to twenty four, it was an amazing Barca display.
The first half wasn’t bodied with goals though, seeing as Luis Suarez’s fifth minute strike was all they had to show for the first half.
However, it rained goal upon goal in the second half, as Luis Enrique’s men couldn’t get enough. It didn’t take long, as the second half resumed, with Pique doubling the lead on the 49th minute mark. Smooth sailing on here for the Catalans.
In the 54th minute, a Messi penalty was saved, but a re-take was in other due to encroachment and Messi made no mistake. In the 62nd minute, a Suarez shot forced a save from Alvarez, the Vallecano shot stopper, but he couldn’t parry it away quick enough though as Messi scored on the rebound.
Messi’s hat trick was preordained though as the forward made no mistake in the 68th minute to slot in his 30th goal of the season.
Consolation goal for the visitors came however, as Bueno converted an Alves-caused penalty.
The game was done and dusted at this point anyways, and to further prove it was, Suarez latched on to a Messi pass and made it six for Enrique’s men, the win propelling Barcelona to the top with a 1 point difference.
