I’ve seen the back of a fridge and it’s frigging ugly. I’m yet to see Manchester though, so I can’t pass any judgement. De Gea’s girlfriend, Edurne Garcia, has seen it and decided to compare it with the back of a fridge.
There are reports linking Manchester United’s number one, David De Gea with Real Madrid. If his partner doesn’t find Manchester beautiful, is this a mark in the direction of his move back to beautiful Spain?
“I’ve been told Manchester is uglier than the back of a fridge,” Pablo Motos, host of entertainment show El Hormiguero, put to her this week.
The 29-year-old agreed, adding: “It’s not very nice, that’s for sure. You have to hunt out specific places – the nice places.
“But even then Spain is nicer. The reason I like it is because David’s there. With him being there, everything is wonderful.”
Manchester councillor, Pat Karney, then hit back with a witty reply:
“The only thing Manchester has in common with a fridge is that it’s really cool,” he told Manchester Evening News. “But Mancunians are renowned as some of the warmest people you could ever wish to meet.”
“We attract millions of visitors a year who flock here for our nightlife and celebrations, our world-class cultural attractions, our shopping and of course our football.”
“I’m not sure how much of the city Miss Garcia has seen, but we’d be delighted to take the couple on a tour and show them what they’re missing.”
