A blow has been struck to the APC as the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Mr Tele Ikuru has decamped to the PDP. The deputy governor had, in an address to the people of the state, on Sunday, said he was quitting APC, which he described as “a party of rebels, insurgents and anarchists, clothed in the robes of pretence and deceit.”
He also said his continued existence in APC would amount to witch-hunting and hounding down Jonathan, “the very first ever president from this region, granted us by providence,” after 48 years of Rivers people supporting leaders from all parts of this country with their votes and resources.”
He also urged the people of the state to vote en masse for President Jonathan and the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Nyesom Wike, in the forthcoming elections, saying they would both deliver on the dividends of democracy.
The development was coming as a shock, given that the presidential election is barely some six days away and in view of the fact that Governor Rotimi Amaechi had, at recent various fora, described Ikuru as a loyal deputy.
