I wonder if United boss Van Gaal will regret his decision to sell England forward, Danny Welbeck to Arsenal, seeing as he was instrumental in kicking them out of the competition.
ArseneArsene Wenger made a tactical decision of starting Welbeck ahead of Giroud, to show Wenger he made no mistake, Danny Welbeck scored the winning goal in the second half.
Arsenal opened the scoring midway through the first half, as Chamberlain mazed his way through the United defence and teed up left back, Nacho Monreal who made no mistake with the chance he was given.
This was short-lived though as United got back into the game via Wayne Rooney’s head, after successfully connecting with a Di Maria cross.
A Valencia error saw former United man, Danny Welbeck putting his new team back in front just after the one hour mark. The match ended 2-1 and also featured Di Maria getting two yellow cards simultaneously, after first being carded for a simulation and getting another for grabbing referee, Michael Oliver’s shoulder.
Arsenal are to play Bradford or Reading in the semifinals and Wenger expects a tough one.
“Last year we played a tricky game at Wembley in the semi-final and you expect that again,” the manager said after the game..
