Everton were on a winless run and slowly slipping into a relegation battle until today when a 3-0 win over Newcastle United gave them their first win in 6 attempts and could help get them back to winning ways.
Everton controlled much of the first half and finally took the lead in the 20th minute through McCarthy whose weak shot from over twenty yards was completely misjudged by Tim Krul who allowed the ball roll into the net as he dived the wrong way. Everton looked to continue to dominate in the second half and in the 56th minute, Gouffran brought down Aaron Lennon in the box and Lukaku stepped up and sent the resulting penalty into the net to make it 2-0. Newcastle were reduced to 10 men as Fabricio Coloccini was shown a straight red card for a tackle of Lennon. In the 92nd minute Barkley sealed the win for Everton as he rounded Krul before slotting the ball into the net.
Everton have now climbed up to 14th on the table and would hope to go on a winning run in the next few matches
