Barcelona beat Manchester City 1-0 at the Camp Nou to ensure their qualification to the quarterfinals of the UEFA champions league but they really should have won the game by a larger margin.
Both teams set out to attack from the get go but Barcelona dominated the early proceedings but failed to create clear cut chances, with a few half chances falling their way until the 31st minute when lionel Messi went on a charging run from the right wing, the Argentine then lifted the ball over the defense onto Rakitic in the box and the Croatian had the presence of mind to chip the ball over Hart and give Barcelona the lead on the night. Barcelona continued to ask questions of the Manchester city defense and Suarez could have made it two before half time as he found himself in the same position as Rakitic a few minutes earlier. The Uruguayan attempted a chip similar to Rakitic’s but his attempt hit the post. Barcelona showed how deadly they can be on the counter attack in the second half as they created chances for Messi, Suarez and Neymar on several occasions. Hart and the post/bar however denied the Catalan giants from extending their lead. Aguero missed a penalty in the 73rd minute after he was brought down in the box by Pique and Manchester Cityt were unable to create good chances to score.
Barcelona now join Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals, Making spain the most represented side in the UEFA champions league round of eight
