New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has reportedly adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate come March 28 general election.
Daily Trust reported that Goodluck Jonathan, had earlier been adopted by a host of other political parties, including the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).
Speaking in a press conference in Lagos, NNPP national chairman, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, said the party which is currently fielding candidates for various positions in 23 out of the 36 states of the federation and Abuja, decided to adopt President Jonathan “so as not to truncate what the president has started.”
He said: “Jonathan is a man who talks less and does more. He is known for humility. If the president did not have God behind him, a lot of things would have gone wrong in this country.”
“We took critical look at the various presidential candidates and decided to present Jonathan.”
“We urge Nigerians to vote for the current administration for continuity. This is not by any means casting aspersions on the credibility of the other presidential candidates. We only believe we should rather have continuity at this stage,” he concluded.
