Absolute smash of a reggae tune, “Nigeria” pops open with a fresh bang from the MMMG man. Tekno enlists Ice Prince for this and the result is quite the stunner. For a rapper who has switched his game real big, this is almost a flawless Ice Prince representation. And we love.
However, the chorus is particularly weak through this.
Tekno does the one thing expected of a true Nigerian in this dire time, following the socio-political dispensation and rife unbelief characterizing our polity today. Again, we love. “Nigeria” sees the young man evolving past his regular Afro Pop style into something finer and artistic, something hovering more within the fringes of Reggae.
Lyrically, this isn’t the best we can get but it surely some considerable improvement from both Acts. The beats are heavy, moving slowly and purposefully, it sinks the song in at first listen. The sounds of the song are great but not so original. They come off as something we already heard from some previous piece (maybe it’s me). In all though, this is a fine cut. Rhythmic, engaging and repeat-worthy, it makes for a great listen given its logical themes.
