At the beginning of the year 2015, the story was Cristiano Ronaldo and his 70-goal pace. And now, a month and half into 2015, the script has flipped and favored his rival Lionel Messi.
Marca reported that Messi’s hat-trick against Levante means he moves in front of Cristiano Ronaldo in the total number of goals each player has scored this season in all competitions.
The Argentinian has hit the back of the net 37 times this campaign, whilst the Portuguese Real Madrid player has yet to move past 36.
However, Ronaldo is still ahead of Messi in the race for the La Liga top scorer award, the Pichichi Trophy. The former is on 28 La Liga goals with the latter is on 26.
