A new dimension was introduced into the Nigerian Film making scene on 29th January 2015. Before now, the general understanding and usual practice was for moviemakers to call a Press Conference after a movie is shot and bring a few of the cast for the press to interact with. Only a few moviemakers have successfully and consistently premiered their movies in the cinemas. But the status quo was challenged by BP Vision Ltd, a creative entertainment firm that has been in the industry for over 10years.
The company has made name for itself as a leader in the theatre scene of Nigeria with an impressive number stage plays to its credit. Some of the stage plays produced by BP Vision Ltd are quest in time, Mystery, Same Page, Grey Area, Journey of African woman, Same Page Reloaded. All these plays featured top acts like OC Ukeje, Wale Ojo, Yemi Blaq, Iretiola Doyle, Nse Ikpe Etim, Uzor Osimkpa, Kemi ‘lala’ Akindoju and a host of others. Having been successful in stage productions, BP Vision ltd led by Michael Asuelime, has finally made a bold and remarkable entry into Nollywood.
The standard in advanced film industry is to take every aspect of the production as seriously as possible. One of such aspects is the musical/soundtrack/sound effect of the film. Unfortunately, in this part of the world, not much attention is given to this aspect of the film. In a bid to produce a world-class film that will be able to compete with any production from other parts of the world, the company went on to produce original soundtracks for the forthcoming movie Entreat.
The soundtracks for the movie were unveiled to the general public in an event that eventually turned to be a memorable show on Thursday 29th of January, 2015 at The Atrium, Silverbird Galleria, victoria island, lagos. The songs written and composed by the Nigerian Idol product, Joan Ekpai were performed to the admiration of the ecstatic audience.
The show was organized like a major concert with all the necessary elements in place; an exotic grand piano, orchestra band who performed different tunes to the pleasure of the audience, and a DJ who was dishing out groovy sounds that would force even the worst dancer so shake his/her body. All these elements only prepared the way for Joan Ekpai who descended from an elevator to perform the beautiful songs to the amusement of the anticipating audience. The songs were so appealing that almost everyone present joined to sing and hum the chorus of the songs. Joan did give a beautiful performance and a good account of herself.
Earlier in the show, the Entreat team was available for the public and the media personalities present to interact with. The team is made of individuals with vast experience in their area of concentration; Stanlee Ohikhuare (Cinematographer/Co-director) Grace Edwin-Okon (Producer) Solomon Enweremadu (Script Editor) Scott Igbene (Publicist), Joan (Songwriter), Noble Igwe (publicist for the Movie) and Elvina Ibru (associate Producer) although the last two were not present at the event. One after the other, they explained their roles in the production of the movie and gave the excited audience a hint into what to expect when the movie is finally released.
To cap the session was the appearance of Michael Asuelime who is the writer, director and executive producer of the movie. The obviously excited and curious media personalities didn’t wait for him to finish his speech before they started throwing questions at him. He did not disappoint as he eloquently responded to their questions with grace and confidence. He said for him, he had taken time to study the filmmaking industry of Nigeria and also took time to prepare himself for his groundbreaking entrance into the industry. He added that, filmmaking is an act of ‘make believe’ but with Entreat the “make believe” will be believable and that’s why him and the team have taken each step of the process as though it were the only step, giving it their 110%.
A major highpoint of the event was when the cast were finally introduced, they all walked to the stage looking beautiful and with excitement all over them. They just couldn’t hide it! They all spoke glowingly about how Michael mandated them to be in the film without an option of refusal and how excited they are to be parts of such star studded cast. The cast includes Wale Ojo, Monalisa Chinda, Eku Edewor, Ajibade Smart, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Joseph Benjamin, Femi Jacobs, Constance Owoyomi, Zainab Balogun, Michael Osaze Asuelime, Sadiq Daba, Bryan Okwara, Osas Ighodaro, Allwell Ademola, Kemi ‘lala’ Akindoju with new discovery of Michael Asuelime ; Izzie whom he described as the next big face of Nollywood and a host of others.
The most exciting moment of the event was when the Director, Michael Asuelime launched the ‘I Am Campaign’. The name is a tag given to the Online Auditions, which is meant to fill some prominent roles in the film. Michael said he created the platform as an opportunity for young talented Nigerians to showcase their acting ability to the general public. For him, becoming a successful actor in a growing industry as ours shouldn’t be tedious for any talented and gifted individual. The steps to becoming the winners of the auditions have been made simple in a way that from the comfort of a room, an individual can take part in the campaign.
