Sunderland have secured a deal for former Tottenham forward, Jermaine Defoe from Toronto FC with Jozy Altidore going the other way.
Sunderland have struggled this season and find themselves in the relegation zone and would be hoping that Defoe’s explosiveness and experience would help get them some goals. Defoe is reported to have passed his medical at Sunderland and could be in line for a debut against Sunderland.
Sunderland have been heavily criticized for their inability to bring in quality players in recent years and the fans are not entirely confident in the signing of Defoe who is 32 years old. But manager, Gus Poyet believes that Defoe has enough quality to raise the team out of the relegation zone.
