President Goodluck Jonathan will be visiting Maiduguri, Borno State today to campaign for next month’s election. His visit about a week ago to the capital was said only to encourage the troops on the frontlines on Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The President had been criticised in recent times for not visiting the Boko Haram insurgency-ridden state.
According to Punch newspaper report online, the President would use the opportunity of the visit to unfold plans to tackle the Boko Haram militant sect.
The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima of the opposition party APC has pleaded with the citizens of the city to show respect and decorum during President Jonathan’s visit.
The governor said the call became necessary because of recent attacks carried out on the President in Bauchi and Katsina States during which irate youths reportedly went wild against the President’s convoy.
He described the acts as disrespectful, show of intolerance and extremely bad politics.
