See Dubai & Die! Yes, You just have to at least visit Dubai once before you die. Dubai is the business hub of the Middle East and a beautiful destination for family vocation and weddings. It was not my first time in Dubai but it was my first time outside of Nigeria with my best friends of over 8 years.
I was thrilled when on the 17th of July 2014 Michael Demuren sent me an email inviting me to his wedding at The Place, Tokeh Beach, Freetown.
I was excited because it was going to be my first time in Sierra Leone and I was looking forward to a good time by the beach. I may be wrong but I have a feeling that sun bathing at the seaside in Sierra Leone does not necessarily require a six-pack-sporting-well-toned body. With a beard, who needs a Six Pack?
It was a good plan until Ebola happened and the wedding was moved to Dubai.
For us, it didn’t matter where the wedding was taking place as long we were all going to be together, so we got packing and got ready for The City of Gold.
I spent a huge part of my Christmas holiday planning for the Dubai wedding and trying to make up my mind as regards what to wear between a Danshiki and Agbada.
It was a difficult choice to make and I had to go to my Instagram friends for advice. It didn’t quite pay off because I got more confused when people couldn’t decide on one, so I came up with a good plan “Why not rock both at the same time“?
Nobs: Deco, There’s another Wedding coming up and I need you to come through for me.
Deco: What do you want?
Nobs: A fusion of Danshiki & Agbada
Deco: That’s not a problem, give me a week.
Nobs: Deco, It’s in Dubai and I’m not in the business of dragging my father’s name in the mud. I just want to walk on Dubai jaws.
Deco: My Oga, I gat you.
Wednesday January 14, 2015.
We met at Wings Restaurant for pre-flight food and shots of Chivas 18 and then hours later hopped on the flight to Dubai.
On the flight, just before take off, Olamide placed his pillow on the side of his window and took a 6-hour power nap.
Olamide is that friend you wouldn’t want as a companion on a road trip because n*ggah will sleep from gear 1 and wake up at your final destination.
I spent the entire journey bingeing on movies and contemplating how to ask the man sitting in the seat aisle to move his stomach out of the way to enable me go use the toilet.
We got into Dubai at about 7am and headed to The H Hotel for check-in, breakfast and sleep before Nigeria wakes up.
You see, I’m not a huge fan of hotels but there are few things better than a good room with a fantastic view.
My room 3005 had both and it definitely took my breath the moment I walked in.
We went down for breakfast, went to gym to be “ready for the pictures” and then back to the room to sleep before “f@#$king up Dubai”
As the Assistant King of Lagos Party (Banky W is the King), it was my responsibility to host the pre-night out drinks party in my beautiful room and that I did.
After the pre drinks, we headed out to the best clubbing experience of my life in recent times.
I’m still recovering but next week, I’ll be telling the story behind the picture below and you don’t want to miss that.
