Tthe deployment of card readers for the February polls is expected to eliminate rigging in the electoral process.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Enugu, Professor Chukwuemeka Onukaogu says;
“Using the card readers will be a watershed in the electoral process in the country. Politicians should rather concentrate on issue-based campaigns with a view to convincing the electorate than plotting ways to discredit the process. ‘Those plotting to rig the February elections will be disappointed. Those that stole our voters’ cards are just wasting their time because they cannot use them. It is impossible to hack into the INEC card readers so the best thing for politicians is to go and campaign instead of plotting to rig. The idea is to make sure that the electorates have a say in governance and their mandate protected,” he said.

Meanwhile, INEC has created a site where voters can check their voter status here.

  1. Its a welcome development.
    just came out of a training (INEC Training) expected to end tomorrow
    the machine works perfectly
    Not sure there could be a mess in the process as experienced during the 2011 Reg Processes
    however, the issue of finger capturing should be addressed before the end of the week so as to avoid unnecessary delay
    Once again, its a great achievement/arrangement by INEC
    with what I’ve learnt,
    they tried jareee …………………….

  2. It displays the Passport photograph on the voter’s card in a second or two having placed it just at the back of the DEVICE
    We couldn’t authenticate the finger prints though because the DEVICE with which we were trained is not the particular one designated for the polling unit at which the card is being registered.
    With what I’ve seen,
    Thumb up for INEC
