FIFA announced the three man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or award which would be handed in January and the usual suspects, Ronaldo and Messi were joined by Bayern and Germany shot stopper, Manuel Neuer.
Messi had a fantastic 2014, leading Argentina to the final of the world cup and being named player of the tournament in the process Messi also broke the scoring record for the La liga and the UEFA champions league.
Neuer was instrumental to Germany’s world cup winning side in addition to winning the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich. The Bayern man made some phenomenal for both club and country to earn a plce in the last three.
Ronaldo had a wonderful year, while their performance at the world cup was forgettable, no one would quickly forget Ronaldo’s goal scoring form and how it took Portugal past Sweden in the play-offs. Ronaldo also broke the record for number of goals in a single champions league tournamentas he lead Real Madrid to their first UEFA champions league trophy in 12 years. Ronaldo also won the UEFA Super Cup with Real Madrid.
