Despite dominating most of the game, Liverpool failed to hold firm defensively and had to battle to a draw against a much depleted Arsenal side. Skrtel 95th minute equalizer earned Liverpool a point despite finishing the game a man down.
Liverpool dominated the entire first half earning 76 percent of the possession before Coutinho finally gave Liverpool the lead in the 45th minute, Collecting the ball just inside the edge of the area, and working out space for himself before firing in a low shot in off the post to give his side a deserved lead. However, Liverpool’s celebrations were cut short as Rodgers saw his side’s lead almost immediately erased by Debuchy, who headed in at the far post from Mathieu Flamini’s nod-down after Liverpool had failed to clear a free-kick with two attempts. Arsenal completed their turnaraound in the 64th minute through Giroud who slid Santi Cazorla in down the left with a superb first-time pass and then moved into position to finish under Brad Jones from the Spaniard’s resulting pull back. Borini was sent off with over ten minutes to play for a second bookable offense. Martin Srktel, who had earlier been off the field for medical attention and was bandaged up around his head was on hand in the 95th minute of stoppage time to power in Lallana’s delivery into the bottom-right corner to complete an eventful afternoon and earn his side a much needed point.
Liverpool’s league struggles continue in the league but their fans would be encouraged by their team’s show of character.
