Algeria’s Yacine Brahimi has been named the BBC African footballer of the year.
Brahimi who plays for Porto in Portugal put in an impressive performance for Porto over the past year and was brilliant at the world cup where Algeria made it to the last 16 for the first time in their history. Fans from 207 FIFA registered countries voted and Brahimi saw of competition from the likes of Aubameyang and Vincent Enyeama to be named African player of the year by BBC.
Brahimi joins the likes of Eto’o and Okocha who lifted this award before him. Receiving the award, Brahimi dedicated it to Algeria saying “It’s a great honor for me to receive this award,” he told Porto’s official website. I want to dedicate the award to Algeria and all of the other African nations. 2014 has been a great year for me and now I will strive to evolve and win trophies for my club Porto.”
