Nigerian actor and director, Desmond Elliot is one of the several entertainers eyeing political offices ahead of the 2015 general elections. A few months back, he declared his intention to represent Surulere Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress using Olusola as his name on his campaign poster.

His use of the name Olusola in his campaign has faced a lot of criticism and in a recent Twitter quiz with his fans, the actor explained that he only used his English name Desmond Elliot before for ‘professional reasons.’

Speaking with City People on his reasons for joining politics, he explained that joining politics for him is an ambition he had nursed for many years but only joined at a time he considers the most appropriate time to declare his intention. ‘Politics has been in me for many years but I wanted a party which was progressive. My choice of APC was because its stronger and progressive. The party is one you can identify with. This is also a good platform and a good party. It has lots of programs that cater for people’s welfare. It has so much differentiated itself from all others. This is one of the reasons why I decided to join the party,’ he explained.
