Experts expected Chelsea to go to Old Trafford and pick up three points against a struggling Manchester United side and Mourinho’s men looked set to do just that until the 91st minute when Van Persie’s goal earned Manchester United a precious point against the league leaders.
After a cagey first half, Chelsea started to put pressure on Manchester United in the second half and in the 53rd minute, Drogba nodded the ball home from a corner after De Gean had denied Hazard with a beautiful save. Chelsea continued to control the game until the 75th minute when Manchester United started to push for an equalizer. Chelsea appeared to have won the match when Branislav Ivanovic was sent off in the 91st minute for his second booking of the match. Both bookings incidentally came as a result of bringing down Di Maria in the same area. Di Mariw whipped in the resulting free kick and after Fellaini’s header was well saved by Coutois, Van Persie was first to the rebound to fire home the equalizer for Manchester United.
Chelsea remain unbeaten and still stay top of the premier league as Manchester United moved into 7th place.
