Twenty seven people have been reportedly killed in the Plateau community by gunmen, The Punch newspaper reported Tuesday.
According to Mrs Josephine Piyo, Chairman of Riyom Local Government who was represented by the council secretary, Mr Alex Kundang, told a joint team of the national emergency management agency and the state emergency management agency, during a visit to the area on Tuesday, that 27 people died in an attack by gunmen and also torched 70 houses leaving them in rubles that led to the displacement of no fewer than 3,520 people.
Mrs Josephine, speaking to press, described the situation as pathetic and that urgent national attention was needed to address the situation as the attacks had become recurrent and the methods of the attack were similar to that of Boko haram in terms of approach and weapons used.
A senior official who led the NEMA north central team on the assessment visit, expressed sadness over the incident and promised that the federal government would render assistance whenever needed. The displaced people are currently staying at different camps for internally displaced persons in the area.
