Arsenal Leave It Late At Anderlecht

share on:

Arsenal showed great character to come from behind very late and hand Wenger a great birthday present.

Arsenal were not the better team on the night and after a dull first half, Anderlecht kicked it up a notch in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts in the 71st minute by Andy Naja’s header. Anderlecht however took their eyes off the ball and in the 89th minute, Kieran Gibbs fired home a Volley at the far post to equalize for Arsenal. Aderlecht looked ready to settle for a point but in injury time, Mangulu made a mess of a clearance from Sanchez cut back and the ball fell kindly to Podolski  just inside the six yard box and the German justified is cries for first team action as he handed Arsenal a dramatic win.

Arsenal top group D with nine points and have a great chance of going through the group.
