True love never really dies.
After 70 years of dating, Vivian Boyack and Alice “Nonie” Dubes got married Saturday at First Christian Church in Davenport, IA.
According to the Quad-City Times, the couple was surrounded by family and friends as they exchanged vows while holding each other’s hands.
“This is a celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago,” Rev. Linda Hunsaker said while presiding over the ceremony.
The two first met in Yale around 1947 when Boyack, 91, was a longtime teacher and Dubes, 90, worked for the Times and Democrat in payroll.
Longtime friend Jerry Yeast said this couple is far from just your ordinary twosome. “I’ve known these two women all my life,” he told reporters. “I can tell you, they are special.”
Even though Iowa began allowing gay marriage in 2009, the two women said they were recently finally ready for a new chapter in their lives.
