Real Madrid Return To Winning Ways, Beat Basel 5-1 In Champions League

Real Madrid have suffered a torrid start to the la liga season, winning just one game out of three so far and losing their last two matches. But at the Bernabeu today, the European club champions stepped on the pedal and annihilated their opponents, Basel from Switzerland

Nacho’s cross was first deflected into his own net by Suchy before Bale ran on to a lovely pass by Modric, chipped the goal keeper and finished into an empty net to make it 2-0. In the 33 minute, bale ran onto another pass from Modric inside the area and squared the ball to Cristiano Ronaldo who finished with ease from 5 yards. Ronaldo found space in the box again in the 38th minute and squared the ball to Benzema whose deflected shot was saved by the goalkeeper but only into the path of the oncoming James Rodriguez who finished with ease to make it 4-1. Basel got a goal back immediately as Danny Gonzalez ran onto a lovely through ball and finished into the bottom right corner of Casillas. Basel threatened Real Madrid in the second half but Madrid always looked deadly on the counter and some neat interplay between Ronaldo and Benzema set up Benzema in the box and the Frenchman fired the ball into the net via the crossbar.

Madrid would be looking to replicate this form at the weekend in the league and also in the champions league as they seek to be the first team in the modern era to successfully defend the champions league trophy.
