share on:

The office of President Francois Hollander of France has said in a statement that French jets have carried out their first strike against Islamic state militants in Iraq and planes attacked an IS logistic depot in north east Iraq.

President Hollande on Thursday further said that French air strikes would only target the jihadist group position in Iraq and not neighboring Syria and insisted he would not send ground troops. The president’s office on Friday said that Rafale planes had carried out the attack and the objective was hit and completely destroy and that other operations would continue in coming days.

France was already carrying out reconnaissance flights over Iraq and providing weapons to Kurdish fighters.
