Portugal manager, Paulo Bento has left the helm as team manager by mutual consent.
Bento’s last months in charge were disastrous following a thrashing at the hands of Germany at the world cup, Portugal were knocked out in the first round and in their first European championship qualifier, Portugal lost 1-0 to unfenced Albania prompting questions to be asked.
Bento would be remembered for leading the team to world cup qualification in 2013. The FPF said that his successor “will be announced shortly” as they thanked Bento “for all he did for the national team”. Portugal are next in action in October, when they face France away in a friendly before going to Denmark in a EURO 2016 qualifier.
