share on:

The US justice department in Portland on Friday said an Oregon woman, 23 year old, Sadie Renee Johnson, pleaded guilty in May to starting a wildfire on the warm spring India reservation last year because her firefighter friends were bored and needed work.

According to  the attorneys’ office, Sadie tossed a small firework from a car in July 2013 into a roadside bush which spread to about 80 square miles and cost nearly $8million to curb.

KTVZ TV reported that the justice department said the details of the case were released on friday while the wildfire season is underway to underscore the danger of such reckless action. Investigators say two days after the incident, she posted a question on Facebook. “like my fire”?

Her sentencing is scheduled for September 3.
